What is Advance Mentoring?
Advance Mentoring is an online community where people interested in
Business Mentoring can connect with one another to build and maintain
lasting Business Mentoring relationships.
How does it work?
With Advance Mentoring, you can create your profile and place your advertisement
into our database as a Mentee, a Mentor, or both. Then you are ready
to start searching for your Mentee or Mentor and to begin building your
Mentoring relationships.
How much does it cost?
During our launch, Advance Mentoring is completely free. After the launch,
some memberships will remain free, but other upgraded memberships will
require a subscription.
What is the story behind
the logo?
The logo is representative of a gyroscope. The balance involved between
each ring is what keeps the gyroscope together. The large outer ring
represents the Mentor and the inner ring the Mentee: both rings work
together towards the same goal.
About Professional Mentoring:
Professional Mentoring is Mentoring between an experienced person,
the Mentor, and a less experienced one, the Mentee, for the main purpose
of developing the Mentee professionally in his or her chosen profession.
Includes Mentoring for and from those in school for advanced degrees
such as masters and doctorate in law, medicine, business, science, and
the arts.
This also includes those in school: for example a college senior looking
for direction of selecting and applying to Med School would be helped
by a current Med School student. A Mentor will be able to bring a more
tested view of the business world, often several years working in an
industry, learning all the features and intricacies that make it work
Professional Mentoring spans all professions and industries, allowing
you to find someone who fits your needs. Although the relationship is
directed at helping the Mentee succeed in his/her career through goal
setting and business enrichment from her Mentor, the learning often
goes both ways. For example, a Mentor who has been a lawyer for 30 years
and is an expert at litigation might not also be proficient at database
or spreadsheet creation, something the Mentee may be able to help with.
Getting Started
What is “My Email”?
Once you have registered with Advance Mentoring, My Email is your own
personal private messaging system which enables you to communicate with
other Advance Mentoring Members. A unique feature to Advance Mentoring
Private Messaging is that the private messaging system is setup to mimic
your own personal email account. Not only can you send and receive and
unlimited number of messages to other users, but the mimic system also
allows you to hold messages in your inbox as well as review messages
which you may have sent previously.
Why Can’t I login?
Be sure to check that your Username and Password are correct. If you
have forgotten your password, click on the “Forgot Password”
link under the login boxes. A copy of your Username and Password will
be sent to the email account you originally registered with. If this
still does not fix the problem, contact us at Support@AdvanceMentoring.com
with the subject line “Lost Password”. Be sure to include
your Advance Mentoring Username in the body of your email and we will
resolve the problem as fast as possible.
Why Should I Invite Friends?
If you feel that you are enjoying the Advance Mentoring experience,
click on the “Invite Friends” button, and enter in the email
addresses of friends or members of your business network who you feel
could benefit as much as you have from the Advance Mentoring experience.
Private Messaging
The Private Messaging system is intended to give you, the User, another
tool for connecting with other Advance Mentoring Members. The Private
Messaging System can be accessed when you have logged into your account
by clicking on “My Email”.
I cannot send private messages.
There are three reasons for this; you are not registered and/or not
logged on, for one reason or another we have disabled private messaging
for the entire site, or we have prevented you individually from sending
messages. If it is the latter case you should contact us immediately
at Support@AdvanceMentoring.com to rectify this problem.
I keep getting unwanted private messages.
In the future we will be adding an ignore list to the private messaging
system. For now, though, if you keep receiving unwanted private messages
from someone, send an email to Support@AdvanceMentoring.com with the
subject line “Unwanted PM” and then the sender’s Advance
Mentoring username. For example,
To: Support@AdvanceMentoring.com
Subject: Unwanted PM; JohnDoe2
Be sure to include a copy of the unwanted message in your email to
us, as well as your explanation of the situation, and the course of
action you feel would be appropriate. We will take this under heavy
consideration in determining the best course of action against the accused
user. In most cases, users who are found to be sending unwanted private
messages will have their ability to send private messages for a period
to be determined on a case by case basis.
I have received a spamming or abusive email from someone on the Advance
Mentoring website.
We are sorry to hear that. The email form feature of this site includes
safeguards to try to track users who send such posts. You should email
us with a full copy of the email you received at Support@AdvanceMentoring.com
and it is very important this include the headers (these list details
of the user that sent the email). We then can take action to settle
the matter.
I-Messenger
The Instant messenger gives you a private chat facility for other members
that are logged in to the Instant Messenger. When launched, it will
display a list of members online. Select the member you wish to message
by clicking their username. This action will display a message box for
you to enter a message. Click an emoticon to enter it at any point in
your message and press send to message the user. Although you can communicate
with several people simultaneously, only the member you are messaging
will see your message.
Why do some members appear to be online when
they are not?
This is minor problem, although it does occur regularly. This happens
because members who used the I-Messenger did not properly log out. Usually
this is caused by the fact that the member simply closed the I-Messenger
window instead of logging out. To logout and sign off from the I-Messenger
properly, make sure to click the logout button in the upper right hand
corner of your friend's window. How do I see what other members are
online besides those on my friends list?
At any given time, there are other Advance Mentoring Members online
and using the I-Messenger, besides those who you have already added
to your buddy list. To view these other members, click on the “View
All Members” button on the Your Friends window.
Chat Rooms
The chat room is for members to communicate on either a personal or
community level Click the chat room button on the left-hand menu and
the chat room you will automatically be logged into the chat room using
your username. Simply enter your message in the blue box and press send
to display your message to other users. If you prefer to communicate
on a one-to-one basis, double-click the username in the list on the
right to display a private chat window that can only be seen by you
and the person you are communicating with.
Mentoring Matches
Your Mentoring Matches is a list of other Mentees or Mentors who are
registered with Advance Mentoring that you have come across in a search
before and have saved the search to your Mentoring Matches. The purpose
of this is so that you can keep track of Mentees or Mentors you may
have come across during a search and would possibly be interested in
starting a Mentoring relationship with. To add some one to your Mentoring
Matches list, when your click on a members profile after performing
a search, at the bottom of the profile click on “Add to Mentoring
Matches”. To view this list in the future, login to your account
and click on the “Mentoring Matches” button at the top of
the page.
Video Profile
How do I upload a video Profile?
To upload your video profile to Advance Mentoring, login to your account
and click on the “My Information” button at the top of the
page. Once there, click on the “Add Media” button at the
top of the right column. Scroll to the bottom of the page and click
on browse to select the video file you wish to upload. Press the “Update
Now” button and your video has been uploaded. Can I change my
video profile after it has been uploaded?
To change or remove your video profile after it has been uploaded,
login to your account and click on the “My Information”
button at the top of the page. Once there, click on the “Add Media”
button at the top of the right column. Scroll to the bottom of the page
and select the video you wish to remove by checking the remove box to
the right. When finished, click the “Update Now” button.
What types of video files does the site support?
The Advance Mentoring website currently supports both AVI and MPEG video
files. Support for Real Media and QuickTime Movie files coming soon.
Searching
There are several criteria upon which you can search. These include
the person’s age, state of residence, industry, and whether the
profile includes a photo. If you are a Mentee seeking a Mentor then
search for ‘Mentors'. If you wish to see only profiles with photos
then click the 'Photo Ads Only' box. You can quickly move through the
regions box by pressing the '-' (dash) on your keyboard. If you wish
to find an individual member, you may type their username directly into
the 'Username' text box and click search.
Why does my search return zero results?
There are a lot of factors that could be causing this to occur. The
most likely reason is that your search criteria do not match the information
provided by Advance Mentoring Members. Try your search again with broader
criteria. If the problem persists, contact us at Support@AdvanceMentoirng.com
and we will remedy the problem as soon as possible.
How do I contact someone after locating them
in the search?
At Advance Mentoring, there are several ways you can go about this.
Whether it is through our forums, a private message, the community chat
room or through our instant messaging system, contacting other users
is easier than ever.
